Work in progress: Olivia Pils and Sassy Park; Photo: Jantje Almstedt
On Thursday, November 28, at 6:00 PM, the exhibition by the two current guest artists, Olivia Pils and Sassy Park, will open! The works on display were created during six weeks of intensive work and exchange as part of the international “°Ceramic Artist Exchange – Tandem” program.
Olivia Pils (Berlin) worked on two series during her time at the Ceramic Artist Residency, both of which center on the human body in their own unique ways. The first series features several body-like objects made of modeled and slab-built porcelain. Fired in a gas kiln, the objects now possess a greenish, cold sheen. The cool, elegant aesthetic of the porcelain is disrupted by the imperfect surfaces and the addition of real human hair. The second series, also made of porcelain, consists of candy jars. Without functionality, the playful forms and their pink, glittering surfaces tell stories about the body image of the Catholic Church.
Sassy Park (Sydney, Australia) presents works in the exhibition that reflect her personal connection to Germany with both humor and seriousness. In her twenties, during the 1980s, the artist lived in Karlsruhe and Berlin and later married into a family with a strong German heritage in Australia. During her time in Neumünster, she visited local museums and developed a particular interest in the traditions, people, animals, houses, and landscapes of the region. These personal connections, along with her fascination for the German language, inform her text-based vessels, painterly sculptures, and clay paintings featured in the exhibition.
The exhibition will open on Thursday, November 28, at 6:00 PM with a brief introduction and an artist talk.
Opening hours: Friday, November 29 to Monday, December 2, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM each day.
Sunday, December 1: Christmas-Popup-Store from 12:00 to 6:00 PM
