Fresh energy at the Keramikkünstlerhaus!
Starting in the second half of the year, Marilen Rauch will step in as interim artistic director while Jantje Almstedt is on parental leave.
Marilen Rauch (b. 1990, DE) is a visual artist based in Gothenburg, working at the intersection of ceramic installation, sound, and performance. Her practice explores the deep connections between landscapes, their materials, and the transformations they undergo. Using local, self-extracted clay, feldspar, and field recordings, she creates site-specific installations that reveal the layered, often hidden narratives embedded in altered environments.
Through slow, process-based methods—such as gathering raw materials from the ground, deep listening, and tactile engagement—she invites us to reconsider our relationship with nature. Her work highlights the interdependence of geological and human processes and encourages a more caring and coexistent approach to the world around us.
Marilen holds an MFA in Ceramic Art from HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg. In 2023, she co-founded the collective Tontouristen (Clay Tourists), which focuses on the material and transformative journey of clay. Her works have been exhibited internationally, including at Salt Museum (KR), European Ceramic Context (DK), and Stockholm Craft Week (SE).
