For 25 years now, there’s the artist house “Stadttöpferei”, based in the historical city centre of Neumünster, northern Germany. It is run by the Dr. Hans Hoch Foundation as a special place for art and artists, focused on ceramic art in all its facets. The institution is evolving constantly and is characterized by numerous ceramic artists who have lived and worked here. Activities include regular exhibitions and workshops in the gallery or the International Ceramic Symposium, which took place here in 2010 for the first time. In future it will be possible to enabling more artists to live and work in the residence house, due to the new internationally announced program “Ceramic Artist in Residence”. This program opens dialog on contemporary positions of ceramic art, intercultural exchange, as well as experiments with materials and audience.
Conditions
This residency is designed to accomodate emerging artists for 4 weeks free of charge and includes a well equipped ceramics studio, as well as a comfortable living space. The resident will be provided with basic materials and electric and gas kilns firings during the course of the residency. The studio space is open to the public during the day, artists are requested to be present and avaliable for visitors giving them an insight into their creative process. At the end of the residency, a final public presentation in the form of a lecture, workshop, exhibition or performance focussing on the work produced at Stadttöpferei is expected.
Application
Applications for the four-week stay in 2013 will be accepted until 31st January 2013. The residence program mainly supports emerging artists, who use clay as their primary material. This residency is only avaliable once for each artist.
Please submit the following (in english or german only):
- completed application form, available here at residency website: http://residence.stadttoepferei.de (Download .doc | .pdf)
- a maximum of 10 images of works from the last three years, with details of title, material, size, in the form of high-resolution jpg files by e-mail (max. 20 MB) or paper prints via snail mail
- Vita, with details on education, exhibitions, awards and artist residencies
- Written project proposal (max. one page) for your residency.
Applications sent by e-mail need to arrive at info@stadttoepferei.de with the subject „Ceramic Artist in Residence“ and attachements max. size of 20 MB.

Be aware, that incomplete or late applications (closing date by snail mail = date of the postmark) may not be considered. The selection of artists is made by a jury. Within two weeks after the application deadline, the artists will be informed of the outcome of the jury’s decision.
